Penina
golf course, also known as the Sir
Henry Cotton Championship Course,
was the first golf resort to be built in the Algarve and was designed
by the late Sir Henry Cotton.
The triple British Open Champion was challenged to create the first
Algarve golf course from a plot of
land that was then, just merely a rice field.
Since creating this masterpiece, the Algarve has not looked back, now
there are some 36 golf courses running all along the Algarve and many
more being planned for the future.
Although relatively flat, Penina golf
course is still one of the
toughest tests of all the Algarve
golf courses, and hosted the prestigious Algarve Portuguese Open no
fewer than 10 times!
With mature tree lined fairways and strategically placed water
hazards, bunkers and drainage channels that intersect the
fairways, you need to be on your best game to score well on this Algarve golf course!
