The Oceanico Millennium golf
course is a bit more open than its neighbouring courses, Pinhal and the
Old Course, and incorporates some beautiful lakes which come into play
on the 4th, 17th and 18th holes.
Having said that, there are a few holes between the 3rd and the 7th
where the fairways are a bit tighter and accuracy from the tee is
essential, as they are lined with stunning pine trees.
It was the arrival of this
Oceanico Millennium golf course that really put Vilamoura on the map to
becoming one of the main European golfing destinations.
The back nine was part of the
original 27 holes of the Laguna golf course, and was refurbished
by well known UK architects Hawtree & Sons in 1999, along with
creating and designing a brand new front nine.
The new structural changes to
the back nine, which included completely rebuilding the tees,
greens and bunkers, where aimed at making the golf course easier and
more friendly to play.
