How Important Is Your Short Game?
|
|
Touring
Professionals, on average hit around 13 greens in regulation! that
means that 5 times per round they will require an excellent short
game,
with an accurate chip or pitch shot to ensure saving their par. Failing
to do so on a regular basis will make the difference between earning a
living and not!
When it comes to the Amateur Golfer, the average
number of greens hit in regulation is only around 2 or 3 per Round!
This creates a huge opportunity to either save or lose strokes purely
on the ability of his/her golf
chipping or pitching
performance.
I
bet if you count the average number of shots it takes to get down from
around the green, you would be staggered by the number of strokes that
you are potentially throwing away. Just imagine for example, there are
14 occasions during a round that you have the opportunity to get up and
down in 2, if you could only manage this 50% of the time, you
would save 7 strokes!

Learning how to
save those precious shots around the green with a consistent and
reliable short game is one of the surest ways to start lowering that
handicap and improving
your golf scoring. When it comes to the short
game there are plenty of tricky shots that you will eventually need to
master if you want to maximise your performance, such as the
chip-n-run, pitch-n-run and lob shot for example. However, there are 2
basic shots that you should focus on perfecting first, which are the
Chip Shot and Pitch Shot.
If you are serious about improving your
golf chips shots and looking for some inspirational advice on how to
take your short game and golf chipping to the next level, then i would
recommend that you get a copy of Phil
Mickelson's excellent golf
instructional book called 'Secrets
Of The Short Game'
