Callaway LR550 Golf Laser Range
Finder Review
|
|
Callaway
have entered the range finder market by teaming up with Nikon to
produce the LR550. Nikon are obviously very well known for their high
quality optics and are long standing leaders in the optical industry,
so this seems like a sensible choice by Callaway.
Although the Callaway
LR550 golf laser range finder has been around for a few years now,
it is still an extremely popular choice amongst avid golfers, newbies
and players who have just started the game.
This is mainly because of its simple design, ease of use and ability to
produce accurate results. The Callaway LR550 is also one of the
cheapest golf rangefinders on the market, so is an affordable option
for golfers who are purely looking for accurate line-of-sight readings.
Although not as compact as some of the new tournament edition models
like the Bushnell Tour Z6 or Leupold GX-4i, the Callaway LR550 is still
small enough to comfortably fit into your pocket. |
With a striking yellow color scheme, which may or may not appeal, the
Callaway LR550 range finder is similar to other Tournament
Edition
Rangefinders in the fact that because it only offers
line-of-sight
distance measurements it is deemed to be legal for competition play
(when allowed by local rule) unlike the more advanced Slope Edition
models that provide additional features including adjusted distances
for slope angles and in some cases suggestion on club selection.
The Callaway LR550 range finder has a maximum distance range of 550
yards (hence the name LR550) and although this is lower than most other
Golf Range Finders it is certainly more than adequate for most golfers
needs. It also offers a 6x magnification capability to enable you to
zoom in on to your targets. The main feature on the LR550 golf laser
rangefinder by Callaway is "First Target Priority Mode" which makes
gaining accurate distances to the pin a lot easier.
First Target Priority Mode works by placing a greater emphasis on
ranging the distance to the nearest object in the viewfinder, and will
therefore ignore any background interference such as trees or
buildings. This advanced technology in the Callaway LR550 rangefinder
not only makes capturing accurate distance reading to the pin position
incredibly easy but also works for any other targets that you wish to
obtain distance readings for, like bunkers or lay up points.
The Callaway LR550 golf laser range finder also provides you with a
great scan mode that allows you to check the distance measurements to
multiple objects in succession for up to a period of 8 seconds at a
time. This feature comes in very handy when you are not sure if you can
clear that lake in front of you or carry that fairway bunker on a par 5!
Other features on this waterproof Callaway
Range Finder include an
adjustable eyepiece diopter so you can custom focus the setting,
multi-colored optics to enhance visibility and a folding rubber eyecup
to make it easier for golfers who wear glasses. The Callaway LR550
range finder runs on a CR-2 3-volt battery that is included in the
package and also comes with a matching yellow neoprene sports sleeve
with a removable travel cover for added protection.

The

LCD display and has been designed in conjunction with optical
specialists Nikon to provide golfers with fast, simple and accurate
