8 Steps To Perfect Golf Pitching!
|
|
Why
would you want to waste time improving your golf pitching and short
game, when all we really dream about is out hitting our mates with huge
300 yard drives down the middle of the fairway?
Although
improving
your golf driving is one of the most enjoyable aspects in
golf and can certainly make life a hell of a lot easier, being able to
hit the golf ball miles down the middle of the fairway, will only play
a very small part of your overall golf game.
If you really want
to see your handicap drop and your scores reducing, the only real way
of achieving this is by mastering your golf pitching and short
game
around the green. So take a moment to learn the 8 steps to perfect golf
pitching below:
1.
Position Of Golf Ball
- for normal pitching shots the ideal ball position is in the
middle of your stance, having the ball too far forward will lead to a
lot of duffed or thinned shots, because you'll end up hitting the
ground before the golf
ball. Too far back will de-loft the club face,
producing a lower shot, with more run. |
2. Take
An Open Stance
- opening up your stance, i.e. pulling your left foot back 6 inches or
so, will help to give you a better visual perspective of the pitch
shot. It will also help to minimize any unwanted leg or hip movements,
as well as help to create a steeper swing path, that will produce
higher golf pitching shots that land softer.
3.
Correct Body Alignment
- now that you've adopted an open stance, ensure that your feet, knees
and hips are aligned parallel to each other, so they are all aiming
left of the target. It is important to keep you shoulders parallel to
your target line though, otherwise you might find that you will end up
pulling your shots left of the target.
4. Press
Hands Forward
- by pressing your hands forward so that the butt end of the golf
club is
pointing to the inside of your left thigh, you are creating a strong
left arm and hand position. This is the ideal position that you want
your hands to be in when you're making contact with the golf ball and
one of the keys to golf pitching success.
5. Length
Of Back Swing
- this is simple to understand but very difficult to master! If you can
maintain a good consistent rhythm in your back swing, then all you have
to do to change the distance you hit your golf pitch shots, is adjust
the length of your back swing. This is easier said than done, but can
be achieved with plenty of practice.
6.
Accelerate Through The Ball
- the most common mistake amongst amateur golfers is to decelerate
through the impact zone because they are either afraid of the outcome
or try to lift or scoop the ball up into the air. Decelerating just
causes the left hand to brake down, which will result in all kinds of
strange and inconsistent shots.
7.
Complete Your Follow Through
- too many golfers are looking to see where the ball is going to end
up, and quit on the shot before completing their follow through. This
will only result in poor golf pitching and inconsistency. One way to
overcome this problem is to ensure that your follow through is the same
length as your back swing.
8.
Practice! Practice! Practice!
- the only true way of improving your golf pitching performance is
through practice. A great idea to help you develop a consistent golf
pitching technique, would be to buy a decent golf
chipping net and use
this to practice some effective golf pitching drills in the comfort of
your own home.
